Keep Summer Fun - And Dirt Outside!

Keep Summer Fun - And Dirt Outside!

Summer is a great time of year. People spend more time outside than ever, and families have children home from school. It can be an incredible time of playing in the woods, swimming, outdoor games with friends, and spending lazy nights chasing lightning bugs.

Unfortunately all of this outdoor activity can also mean a lot of outdoor dirt making inside onto your floors. The good news is that there are several steps you can take to enjoy summer fully while keeping the dirt outside and keeping your carpet cleaning manageable.

Create an Easy Place to Remove and Store Shoes

The #1 culprit of bringing dirt in from outside is shoes. Whether your kids have been playing in the neighborhood or you’ve been working in your garden, chances are good that you’ll have a lot of dirty shoes coming in the house during the summer.

Instead of letting everyone track dirt on your floors, create an easy-to-use place where everyone can remove dirty shoes. This will help keep dirt localized near the doors, and you and your family can come in without having to spend 20 minutes cleaning off shoes.

When folks don’t wear their shoes in the house, your carpet cleaning will be much easier!

Take Advantage of the Hose

If you have access to an outdoor hose, use it! This can help everyone keep their feet cleaner. From summer afternoons at the lake or beach to muddy days catching fish or crawdads, it’s easy to get really dirty feet.

With a hose, you can easily wash off everyone’s feet before they come in the house. This, especially when used with the shoe basket mentioned above, can definitely cut down on the amount of carpet cleaning you have to do each day.

Of course, if you have too much fun cleaning off with the hose, you’ll definitely need our next tip.

Keep Towels Near the Door

Whether the hose got out of control or everyone is coming in from swimming or a water balloon fight, you’ll be glad you have towels easily accessible by the door. Towels are a great start to drying off, of course, but they can be used for other messes as well.

It’s best to use low-quality towels for this type of work and save the good towels for baths and showers. Having a ready use for old and worn out towels will also help you avoid waste.

When you have towels ready for those entering your home, you’ll find that less water drips on your tile and hardwood floors. This not only makes cleaning easier, it also helps avoid dangerous slippery floors. And of course, wet carpet makes carpet cleaning much harder.

Get Professional Carpet Cleaning as Needed

Taking care of your floors yourself is an important part of your weekly routine. However, over time (especially during a busy summer) you can definitely notice dirty floors that aren’t easy for you to handle.

Fortunately, it’s easy to get help with professional carpet cleaning and care for other types of floors as well. If summer has been hard on your house, feel free to contact us today! We’ll be happy to discuss your needs.
